HEMANT HEADSHOT

Hemant is a Research Scientist at Huawei R&D Canada. His main research interests include Mixed Reality Interfaces (MR), Wearable Computing, Input Interactions (Gestural interfaces), and Applied Machine Learning (Computer Vision).

He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada, where he was advised by Daniel Vogel, Mark Hancock, and Edward Lank. He has won the David R. Cheriton Graduate Scholarship three times and several other awards (IDSA, CS Achievement Award). He is a Snap Research Fellow. He has previously worked with Microsoft Research – AI, Snap Research, North Research, NetApp Research, Oracle Corp, and co-founded a startup, IoTBLR (Internet of Things, Bangalore).

His research in HCI focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of user interfaces that can help improve productivity. He investigated atomic concepts, like modes & mode-switching, to provide design guidelines that can scale to general applications.
